Jane Spano and her daughter, Jamie Spano, both passed the customs broker exam this past April and ave recently been granted their customs broker license.
December 7, 2015 – Saugus, MA – TradeLink Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce that Jane Spano and her daughter, Jamie Spano, both passed the customs broker exam this past April and have recently been granted their customs broker license. Customs brokers are “licensed, regulated and empowered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to assist importers and exporters in meeting Federal requirements governing imports and exports,” and “must have expertise in the entry procedures, admissibility requirements, classification, valuation, and the rates of duty and applicable taxes and fees for imported merchandise.” Jane Spano, VP of Operations, has been with the Company for over twenty years and oversees client service, finance and operations. According to Jane, “I’ve been in the business a long time, but studying import regulations for this exam has given me a better perspective of our clients’ logistic needs, for both imports and exports, and what is required for keeping our clients in compliance; that’s what our customers pay us for.” Import Analyst, Jamie Spano joined TradeLink two years ago and began training in their import department last year. She thinks the in-depth study for the exam was a valuable exercise, and that “it’s important to get started on the right foot” in the department and “provide informed and proper guidance to clients.” TradeLink President, Dana Goodwin, commented, “For both Jane and Jamie to pass the brokers’ exam the first time around is pretty remarkable. The number who pass nationwide has in the past been as low as 4%; Customs attorneys have been quoted as saying that it is as difficult as passing the bar.” “We’re very pleased with their efforts and take pride in staying educated in all areas of customs brokerage and freight forwarding to help keep our clients in 100% compliance.” ABOUT TRADELINK: TradeLink offers customs brokerage and international freight forwarding services for all industries, with special expertise in defense trade and the ITAR. July 8, 2014 – Saugus, MA – TradeLink Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the re-appointment of company president, Dana Goodwin, to the 2014-2016 Defense Trade Advisory Group.
Dana Goodwin, representing the only freight forwarder appointment to the group, offers in-depth experience with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance for his clients exporting defense articles and a unique perspective and knowledge of the practical application of export regulations. Typically an exporter’s freight forwarder is the last party to transmit data to regulatory agencies before an export departs the U.S. In this role, freight forwarders provide an important role in maintaining compliance for their clients.
The purpose of the DTAG is to “provide a formal channel for regular consultation and coordination with U.S. private sector defense exporters and defense trade specialists on issues involving U.S. laws, policies, and regulations” for defense-related exports. Kenneth B. Handelman, U.S. State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary and Designated Federal Officer, stated in his appointment letter to Dana Goodwin that his “professional background, experiences and interests will enable you to remain a strong contributor to the DTAG function.”
According to Goodwin, “I very much appreciate Officer Handelman’s congratulations and my re-appointment to DTAG, and hope to provide a different viewpoint and knowledge of the practical aspects and challenges associated with defense trade exports.”
